Orvieto Gatti!

For those who love cats…

On my excursions around Orvieto I continue to find cats enjoying free roaming. Some have been friendly, while others have been very skittish. I’m not sure why, but I find myself taking their picture.

One morning Gretchen and I took off in different direction, but found ourselves exploring the same area. We found this wonderful overlook of the cities below Orvieto.  At the same time we found a cat that just couldn’t get enough attention.

Our professors gave us our first assignment. We were divided into groups and assigned an area of Orvieto. One day while exploring I found more cats posing for picture.

I’ll add better pictures later, but these are just a few pictures of our apartment.

I Don't Think We Are in Kansas- We have arrived in Italy!!!

It's true, I survived the flight to Roma and settled in Orvieto. I'm already in love with the City. I left the USA on January 20th and arrived in Roma January 21st.

The Flight

The flight to Roma was long and I couldn't sleep. I was the lucky one who sat in the very middle, the seats were a 2-3-2 combo. A couple hours in to the flight we we're served dinner; however, I ate a sandwich before boarding, so I only ate a  portion of it. While I couldn't sleep my section buddies were fast alseep on either side of me, I WAS STUCK in the middle. :) I wasn't alone in my sleeplessness, several other classmates reported later they couldn't sleep either. In the midst of being trapped, I watched three movies: Looper (action filled), Pitch Perfect(accapella with humor), and Won't Back Down (an inspiring movie where the community seeks school reform). All three movies we're entertaining.

The Bus

From the plane terminal, we took the tram to Baggage Claim and Passport Control. We met up with Professor Alpa Nawre. We boarded our bus, some were asleep within minutes of boarding. I chose to sit in the very back where I had a great view all the windows and half of 5 seats to myself. A group of us sat gawking at the scenery as we left Roma. We acknowledged we weren't in Kansas any more because the grass was green, the trees were different, the Architecture was different, and street signs and the mountings. After 20 minutes slowly one by one we fell asleep, an hour later we awoke to the the bus climbing a narrow path up the mountain. There were moments where it appeared as though we were going to brush with the rock or fall into open air. We arrive safely at the top near the funicolare (Public transit that carries people from Orvieto to Orvieto Scalo).

The Apartment

Gretchen and I share a two bedroom apartment with a kitchen, dinning room/living room, a bathroom, a balcony, and a laundry room. For two people it is a large apartment. We live next to a school and a supermarket (smaller than it sounds). At 7:30-8 am we hear children arrive to school and running to their classrooms.

We are lucky girls living next to the supermarket, we are able to pick up food as we need it. We still need to do a big shopping trip so that we have all the basics. I still need laundry detergent, shampoo, and conditioner. Gretchen and I will be taking the funicolare down to a larger market in Orvieto Scalo and then on Saturday we plan to shop the Market that occurs in Palazzo del Popolo.
